A firebrand President, who makes his voice heard, whether he is seated in the last row or the first. L.Y. 2001-02 (1-7-2001 to 8-7-2001)
Lion Dhunjishaw F. Ichhaporia joined Lionism in the year 1990-91. Our club’s Silver Jubilee Year did not start very well, for within seven days of installation, we suddenly received the shocking news that our newly installed President, Lion Dhunjishaw F. Ichhaporia, was no more. He had a massive heart attack, which took him away from us. It is said that those dear to God are always needed above.
He was so much of a perfectionist that he had really felt the burden of running this prime club of the district. On the very day of his installation at Hotel Diplomat, everyone could see how eager he was to be the 25th president of this fine club. We were looking forward to our Silver Jubilee Year under his leadership.
The one and only full meeting that Lion Dhunjishaw presided over was at the Banaji Atashbehram Hall, where he showed how meticulous he was. He had taken care of the smallest details. He looked rather disturbed that day as everything was not going this way. This is the seriousness with which some of our presidents work.

During the year carried out service activities worth more than Rs. 17 lakhs. A major project was an international twinning project wherein Lions Club of California and Nevada conducted an eye check-up camp. More than 2,000 persons were examined and very good quality spectacles were donated to the needy.
Donated equipment and medicines worth Rs. 1 lakh to the Bel Air Hospital, Panchgani. The actual cost would have been much more than Rs. 1 lakh, but thanks to Lion Daara Patel, we got some heavily discounted medicines as well as also some free medicines. During that year, our club started working on a very ambitious project – upgrading the Ophthalmic Department of B.Y.L. Nair Hospital with the help of a second grant of Rs. 2.5 lakhs from the Lions Club International Foundation. Lion Percy Buhariwala did a lot of the spade work for the same. Our club had been a major contributor during the year to the CSF II program and eight of our members became MJH, which was a record.
This was the first time that we had our very own Lion Daara Patel as Vice District Governor.
