Lions Club of Byculla’s DO GOOD Project for Paediatric Cancer & Epilepsy at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children, raising funds amounting to Rs. 7 crores / USD 825,000
The 15th of January 2025, marked the beginning of a landmark project for the Lions Club of Byculla under President Lion Adil Mistry & Lion Lady Jinaz Mistry. A life changing project benefitting underprivileged children suffering from cancer and epilepsy, at the Department of Neurosciences and Neurosurgery at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children (BJWHC) through the Lions Club of Byculla was flagged off.
Childhood cancer and epilepsy are life threatening and debilitating. They are the top contributors to Disability Associated Life Years and therefore deserve attention.
- BJWHC, is a 525 bed Public Trust Paediatric Hospital serving the underprivileged children across India with an aim to zero the list of children in Maharashtra who are waitlisted for Paediatric Neurosurgery.
- Serves an average of 7,000-10,000 patients annually in the neurology OPD, out of these ~5,000 children are diagnosed with epilepsy, of which, 1,500-2,000 children have drug-resistant epilepsy and need surgical intervention.
- A long-standing support collaboration has been established between BJWHC and Lions Club, for the last 4 plus years.
- Guided by a panel of senior doctors to size up the Equipment & Treatment Aid needed at BJWHC, the requirements amount to ~Rs.7 Crores (~USD 0.8 Million).
The Do-Good Cookbook - The ladies of Lions Club of Byculla have compiled a Do-Good Cookbook to be given as gratis against donations. The Cookbook was launched by Chef Cyrus Todiwala, is a compilation of recipes from around the world contributed by those who support our endeavor and walk with us as we light up the lives of those who thought were destined to a life of darkness. Mr. Noshir Dadrawala, Chief Executive of Centre for Advanced Philanthropy, Mr. Kalyan Karmakar, food influencer & blogger at Finely Chopped & Lion Dr. Uday Andar, a member of our club and an Honorary Paediatric Neurosurgeon with BJWHC also spoke in support of the cause.
President Lion Adil Mistry and his wife Jinaz are no strangers to the plight of these children. For nearly five years they having been providing pockets of service with a dream of creating a substantial and life-changing impact through a landmark project. That dream has taken off in the form of aiding Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for the Children focusing on Childhood Cancer & Childhood Epilepsy for the benefit of the underprivileged in the country.
Appeal for Subsidized Treatment, Equipment and Surgery Support: Donations received would be utilized for equipment (neurosurgical microscope, neurosurgical endoscope, intra operative ultra sound, neurosurgical drills, neurosurgery micro surgical instruments, navigational systems) + medical interventions, pacemakers, surgery & treatment.
